Cutting down the working week

Postby Kickaha » Sun Aug 06, 2017 9:04 am

As I approach retirement I've cut down the days I work from 5 to 4, to get used to having to work even less!

Has anyone else done this? How did it go for you? Any lessons learnt?

Oh, lucky YOU! I did not have that option - when you work for state government, you are full-time (40 hours/week) period. So I went from full-time to retired from one day to the next. But even though I loved my job, I was more than ready to finally have time to do all the things I love. I think staying up late reading is my favorite!

Especially now in the summer... the gardens are producing hot and heavy!

Me too! From working to retirement within a day. My working week since then has been two mornings doing volunteer work. :)

I love my volunteer work down at the rescue ranch. I can work as much or as little as I want! And shoveling horse poop is good for your soul. :bgb

Yep I love the fact that I am not accountable to a boss so can 'bunk off' work if something else crops up or have a bad night!! The work is varied and keeps the old brain functioning - and no horse poop in sight.

Perhaps our garden could use some horse manure . . .

We have plenty with around 90 horses right now! One huge bin has been composting for 5 years now.

I also went from working full time (10 hour days!) to retirement overnight. I retired early in 2002, and have so very much enjoyed the past 15 years, and not missed work once!
